GuinnessGuinness is a staple when it comes to St. Patrick's Day. It's one of my all time favorite beers and highly drinkable once you acquire a taste for it. It has a low percentage of alcohol and is claimed to have enough vitamins and minerals that could replace breakfast on St. Patrick's Day. Think of it as a dark, heavy milkshake. Green BeerGreen beer is arguably better than normal colored beer. It gets you in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day. It makes you feel like you're drinking leprechaun blood. It gives you Irish pride. A little bit of food coloring in your favorite light beer can go a long way. Killian's Irish RedYou'll find Killian's paired up next to the Guinness this time of year but there are far better Irish reds to be had. However, you should try one if you're not into reds as it is a good starter. Murphy's Irish StoutSome say that Murphy's Irish Stout is better than Guinness because it's smoother and is not as bitter. Maybe... If you pour some Magic Hat #9 into this it makes for an interesting treat. Smithwick's (Pronounced 'Smiddick's')When you go to order a Smithwick's this St. Patrick's Day impress your bartender by pronouncing it correctly. Also, order one because it's yummy and also brewed by Guinness. Young's Double Chocolate StoutI always recommend Young's to those too afraid to try Guinness. It has a rich chocolate flavor and unlike Murphy's or Guinness it doesn't have a bitter bite. It has a smooth and sweet malty bite. Did I mention that it tastes like liquid chocolate? Irish Car BombPour your favorite dark beer (traditionally Guinness) into a pint glass. Pour your favorite Irish cream (traditionally Baileys) into a shot glass. For an added blast, float Jameson's Irish Whiskey on top of the Irish cream. Now all you have to do is drop the bomb into your pint and chug, chug, chug, chug! Stout FloatsIce cream has the ability to make almost anything taste better. Scoop some into a smooth dark beer and tada! Don't forget to drizzle green chocolate syrup on top. I'm sure that you've heard somebody say that they don't like to spend time reading books anymore. Well, I don't blame them. Our world is filled with wonderful distractions such as smartphones, gaming consoles, giant screen TVs, movie theaters... Why would anybody bother wasting their time doing something that, frankly, is so very last century? But what if we didn't have to spend as much time reading, yet consume the same amount of information? What if the words on the page were suddenly tossed into our brains and retained faster than ever before? What if we could allow our smart devices do most of the reading for us? What if we barely had to move our eyes? There are so many what ifs when it comes to the possibility of changing the way we consume words on a "page." In fact, I would say that reading has been rejuvenated and repopularized by mobile devices. And to be honest, I love to read but I don't have a lot of time to do it. I typically listen to novels. But there's nothing like taking the time to paint a picture in your mind about what you're reading. Perhaps our brains need breathing room to turn words into beautiful worlds. Consuming something too fast might not allow for us to become creators but rather allow for us to become consumers. When we slowly paint a picture in our minds we are exercising different parts of our brain. New technology like Spritz allows for our brains do what they do best which is interpret, process, and retain information. The creators behind Spritz figured out that focusing our attention on centered words allows for us to pay close attention to each word that pops up. When the speed is cranked up to around 500 words per minute it's still possible to read each word that pops up because our brains are able to keep up! All it takes is a little relaxation and focus. I can see technology like this being used in smart watches. I can also see it becoming the new way to consume news and articles. All you'd have to do is press a Spritz-It button at the top of an article and after a brief countdown, you'd be on your way (that's how I'd have work it anyway). I think it could change the way students study. It might even encourage them to read chapters of a schoolbook for retention purposes (something that is loathed among students). It would not, however, be good for carefully studying different concepts within a chapter. In other words it's not good for everything, just some things. But I'll tell you what, I certainly would love to have this right now and if I could, I'd have a Spritz-It button at the top of this article so you wouldn't have to spend so much time reading all these words. By: Alex Zarnoski | @ajazz16 | Crappy Comics Fans of the still amazing TV wonder Seinfeld must have dreamed of setting foot inside Jerry's apartment. Well, with the help of the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset that is currently getting mass recognition, it might be possible to grab something from Jerry's fridge and see what's on his TV. This VR recreation was made entirely for fandom's sake and will be available for free if you own an Oculus Rift. My favorite band on the planet is back three years after their most colorful album, Mylo Xyloto and this time, they're bringing ghost stories. On May 19th, Coldplay is set to release their sixth studio album titled Ghost Stories, which already sounds darker than anything they've produced thus far. Their sound is more electronic and that's not a bad thing either. That's progression. If you compare each of their albums, you'll find something profoundly unique about each one. Of course, Viva la Vida was slightly different, being their declaration of fearlessness, blending music with artwork and...Brian Eno, who ultimately changed the way they produce their music. Two tracks from Ghost Stories have already been released: Midnight, in the form of a music video, and Magic in the form of a streaming track on YouTube and available to download if you pre-order the nine track album on iTunes. Interestingly, the CD version available from Target comes with three Target-only bonus tracks bringing the album up to a full twelve tracks. That's more like it being as the iTunes version, at first glance, appears to be a bit sparse and unusual for Coldplay. It's always exciting to get new music from your favorite musicians. When Coldplay releases a new album, they are very good at teasing fans with b-sides, artwork, surprise concerts or performances, and usually one of their best tracks from the album. Sure, every band out there does this but not like Coldplay. |
